The Senate has demanded the presence of the minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole to brief the Senate on the current state of facilities and healthcare services in Nigerian teaching hospitals.

The invitation follows a motion sponsored by senator David Umar on the alarming report on poor quality of service in Nigerian teaching hospitals.

According to Senator Umar, the report contained in a daily newspaper observed that most teaching hospitals in the country have been overstretched, forcing patients to sleep on bare floors, plastic mats and unhygienic conditions.

The Senate further urged it’s committee on health to conduct an emergency investigative hearing on the state of healthcare services in the nation’s teaching hospitals and report back within one week.
