Roma have sent a classy message to Mohamed Salah after his Liverpool team reached the Champions League final.

The Reds booked their place at European football’s showpiece event after overcoming a late onslaught from Roma in the semi-final second leg on Wednesday night.

Despite the 4-2 defeat, Liverpool’s 5-2 win in the first leg ensured their progression, where they will now look forward to a May date with Real Madrid.

Salah scored the first two goals in the first tie between the sides, setting his current team on the way against his former employers.

As Liverpool secured their place in the final, Roma sent a message on Twitter to their former hero.

They wrote: “It hurts so much that # ASRoma’s incredible dream of going all the way to Kiev is over but you’ll be there in your new colours.

“Good luck in the #UCL final @MoSalah.”

Salah was unable to get on the scoresheet in Rome, but the goals from his teammates proved crucial on the night.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring after just nine minutes, putting Liverpool into pole position.

Even when James Milner’s unfortunate own goal levelled the scores on the night, Gigi Wijnaldum popped up with what would prove to be the tie’s most important goal.

Edin Dzeko struck for Roma after the break, but the game was beyond Roma at that point, even after Radja Nainggolan’s late double brought the tie to within one.
