MANCHESTER CITY believe they have made a breakthrough in their long-running £60 million purusit of Riyad Mahrez.
And the Premier League champions hope to be in a position to unveil their record-signing by the end of the week.
City have been in talks with Leicester over the Algerian for much of the summer but the move has proved to be complicated.
The deal has been delayed due to a sizeable pay off which Mahrez believed he was owed by Leicester.
Leicester also showed an interest in taking City wide man Patrick Roberts in part exchange – which slowed down negotiations.
However it now looks likely to be a straight cash deal for the Algerian – who was priced out of a move to the Etihad in January.
City remain hopeful they can close a deal for their other main summer target Jorginho- despite reports of a late move by Chelsea.
The Italy international is close to his old Napoli coach Mauricio Sarri – who is due to take over at Stamford Bridge.
However, the Brazil-born midfielder is believed to be keen to play under Pep Guardiola – while the lure of Champions League football should also be decisive.
