The Rivers State Police Command has successfully neutralised Silas Oderereke, better known as ‘General,’ the alleged leader of the infamous Greenlanders cult group in the Ubie clan of Ahoada-West Local Government Area.
The operation unfolded in a fierce gun battle between the police operatives and the cult leader, who had been evading arrest for the past four years.
According to SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ‘General’ was finally apprehended over the weekend. However, two of his associates, Danger Boy and 2 Man, managed to escape and are currently on the run.
“Upon searching the gang’s hideout, the police discovered a G3 Rifle and nineteen 7.62x51mm ammunition. Further investigations uncovered a camp Oderereke had established between Oderereke and Olokuma Communities.
“This camp served as a base for the cult leader and his numerous followers, from where they launched robbery attacks on innocent members of neighbouring communities,” the statement added
Commending the officers for their exceptional work, Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, issued a stern warning to cultists across the state.
He urged them to abandon their criminal activities and renounce cultism, emphasising that those who persist will face the full weight of the law.
The successful operation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Rivers State Police Command to curb cult-related violence and bring those responsible to justice.
