Ihyi Abdul, a 27-year-old Chibok girl recently rescued from Boko Haram captivity, has shared a distressing account of her experiences during her time with the insurgent group.
Abdul, who was abducted along with other students in the infamous 2014 Chibok school attack, disclosed that she was married to eight men during her captivity and has four children from these marriages.
Speaking at a press briefing at the headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command in Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri, Abdul revealed that she is currently three months pregnant.
Brig. Gen. Abubakar Haruna, Commander of Sector One, confirmed her statement and detailed her ordeal.
“I trekked for days before reaching a military checkpoint in Nigeria where they took me and my children in,” Abdul recounted. “I married eight men and gave birth to three children for different husbands. I did not escape earlier because I did not want to until now.”
Abdul explained that Chibok girls were not kept in the same camps, which contributed to her prolonged captivity and lack of information about the status of others.
“As for education, I cannot say anything for now but am not sure I can continue with education,” she added.
In related news, the theater command announced the rescue of 330 families of Boko Haram terrorists, who were handed over to the Borno State government for reintegration. These families were rescued from the Bama and Pulka areas of the Sambisa forest over the past two weeks.
Captain Mohammed Abdullahi, representing the theater commander, highlighted that the logistics supply strangulation strategy implemented for the rainy season has been effective in disrupting insurgent operations.
This strategy is expected to continue yielding positive results.
With Abdul’s rescue, the total number of Chibok girls rescued has risen to 19.
