Protests in Yobe: Seven Buses Torched, Curfew Imposed in Three LGAs

On Thursday, seven mass transit buses were set ablaze at the local government secretariat in Potiskum, the headquarters of Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. This incident occurred amid the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests.

An eyewitness reported that while some individuals arrived in large numbers to incite chaos, they were quickly subdued by security personnel.

Dungus Abdulkarim, Spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the incident, assuring that those responsible will be held accountable.

The nationwide protests, which began on August 1, 2024, and are set to continue until August 10, have been widely propagated on social media.

The demonstrations are taking place across all states of the Federation and in the nation’s capital, Abuja, in response to economic hardships.

In response to the unrest, the state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns. This measure aims to curb the vandalism and looting of both government and private properties by some opportunistic hoodlums.

Dairy Abdulsalam, Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, has called on the public to adhere to the curfew order and remain at home to ensure peace.

He also stated that security agencies have been instructed to enforce the curfew and ensure full compliance.
