The Lagos State Police authorities have exhumed the remains of singer Mohbad and are preparing to conduct an autopsy. Mohbad passed away last week under unclear circumstances, sparking protests and calls for justice across Nigeria.

The rapper, officially known as Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, was buried shortly after his death.

However, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday confirmed that Mohbad’s remains were exhumed at his graveside in the Gberigbe area of Ikorodu in collaboration with health officials.

“Exhumation completed. Autopsy to commence,” he tweeted on Thursday afternoon, days after the police began a probe into the death of the former Naira Marley signee.

In response to public concerns, a 13-man committee was established by the Lagos police authorities on Monday to investigate Mohbad’s death, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in the inquiry.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had previously directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of the singer.

The Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) quoted the IGP’s directive as urgent and direct.
