Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command arrested a woman identified as Hauwa Sani on Friday for attempting to smuggle 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil.
The arrest was made in Keffi, following a tip-off that led the police to intercept the suspect.
The state’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday via X.com (formerly Twitter). The suspect, a native of Doro village in Katsina State, was also found in possession of a cash sum of ₦78,500 and a mobile phone.
According to DSP Nansel, the suspect was intercepted by police operatives attached to the Keffi Division.
Preliminary investigations revealed that she received the ammunition at Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and was en route to Katsina when she was apprehended.
Hauwa Sani was reportedly traveling with a two-year-old child at the time of her arrest.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Nadada, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect and the exhibits to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation,” the statement read.
