Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday flagged off the construction of Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The governor, at a press conference held at the Government House in Port Harcourt said the academy will positively project the state to the world.
Wike added that Real Madrid is a world class football outfit known across the globe and that the citing of its academy in the state followed series of discussions with management of the club, who won the Champions League last Saturday in Kiev after defeating Liverpool 3-1.
The press briefing to flag off the construction of the academy had in attendance, Real Madrid Ambassador, Ricardo Gallego; President of International Sports Press Association, Mr Gianni Merlo; among others.
