THE ruling All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has described the dismal performance of the South Western geo-political zone in the just concluded elective national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party as a further exposure of some political gladiators from the zone with their selfish interest against the general interest of the Yoruba.
The former ruling party held its congress on Saturday and Chief Uche Secondus emerged as the new PDP national chairman against the expectations that one out of the many contenders from the south west would clinch the position.
According to a statement issued on Sunday and made available to Mega Icon Magazine by its Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, the governing party blamed former governor Rashidi Ladoja and some other known selfish elements within the PDP for the “loss of the Yoruba bloc in the orchestrated convention which ended just the way of the previous ones which the party has held since 1998.
“That the 2017 national convention was marred with irregularities could not have surprised genuine political watchers and pundits since the faded popularity of the party was made possible by its notoriety for impunity, intrigues and sharp practices. But the more painful thing this time is that the zone with the most sophisticated people in the country was traded off by some of its own in a shameful manner.
“Come to think of it, how did all chairmanship candidates from the zone have their chances slimmed down? How did a serving governor from the zone manage to get a Ladoja from the Accord Party to play a spoiler role to the event that nothing came the way of Oyo State when certain gladiators had been in pole positions of national chairman and zonal chairman?
“We can only sympathize with the foundation members of the PDP in the state who have had to suffer indignation in the hands of Ladoja since 2003 on account of his insatiable quest for usurpation and self-aggrandizement. However, the Pacesetter State is now better for it as Ladoja’s latest political malpractice has led some active players within the opposition to see the light and pitch their tent with the APC to move the state forward.” The Party said.
