Oyo restates commitment to efficient service delivery

THE Oyo State Government has assured that it will continue to reward efficiency and effectiveness among the civil and public service, saying that its reforms and restructuring of the workforce have yielded fruitful results.

The government said that this necessitated its awards and rewards for efficient performance in the civil/public service.

The Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Efficiency, Dr Isaac Ayandele said at the weekend that the state government awarded workers and Ministries/Departments/Agencies who discharged their duties efficiently and effectively in the year 2017 in three different categories including the Most Efficient MDA, Most Efficient Staff in each MDA and the overall Most Efficient civil/public servant in the state.

Dr Ayandele stated that about 34 awardees were rewarded with cash gifts of One Hundred Thousand Naira and automatic promotions, noting that nine MDAs were rewarded as Efficient Ministries with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism topping the log as the Most Efficient and Effective Ministry in Oyo State in 2017.

The head of the efficiency Unit disclosed that Mr. Adesina Olawoye, the Civil Servant of the Year and the Most Efficient Civil Servant in the office of the Accountant-General in the state has been rewarded with a promotion to the position of Permanent Secretary, adding that the Most Efficient Female Civil Servant, who was also the Most Efficient School Principal, Mrs. Olayinka Aborisade has been rewarded accordingly.

Dr Ayandele explained that the ongoing reforms and restructuring in the state civil/public service is yielding positive results, saying, “We now have hard-working, committed and dedicated civil/public servants. The conduct and attitude of the workers have changed positively and government is reaping from the efficiency and effectiveness of its workforce.

“Though, we still have those who are not up to speed but we believe that if the majority of the workforce are efficient and effective in discharging their duties, civil/public service in the state will be better for it. We are not expecting 100% but quality representation of the efficient ones will add value to the transformation and reposition agenda of Governor Ajimobi,” he said.

Dr Ayandele pledged that the government will continue to recognise and appreciate its workers found worthy, saying that this will encourage government’s employees to stretch, set new challenges and maximize their ability to contribute to the development of the state.

He said that diligent, careful and critical assessment will be employed to determine those to be recognised, adding that they must be found to be obedient, industrious, honesty, disciplined, dedicated, creative and professional like the awardees of 2017.
