THE Special Adviser to the Oyo state governor on communication and strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, had on Wednesday charged media practitioners in Nigeria to be professional and objective in their reports as well as to lead an environment where descent and moderate conversation will enhance peace and development.
He made the plea while receiving members of South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) in his office in Ibadan.
Mr Layinka said, ” if we have moderate conversation, opinions and views of individuals irrespective of status and position will be heard without any crisis.
” As a gatekeeper, we should raise the bar of conversation and be mindful of transmitting poorly analyzed and warp thinking of some individuals”, he observed .
Expressing his displeasure on the abuse of social media, the governor’s mouthpiece noted, “professionals should not be found wanting in the discharge of their responsibilities through dissemination of accurate, factual and unbiased information to the public”.
He, however urged the online publishers to carry out their professional duties with highest ethical standard.
Earlier in his address , the group’s Chairman, Mr. Yinka Agboola enumerates the association’s objectives and vision, adding that its housed professional journalists who are publishing online.
“We are no just professionals, we are passionate about the development of our society and nation at large and that is why we are here to establish and cement a working relationship with the government”, he submitted.
