Aftermath of ward, local government and state congresses as well as the just concluded National Convention, the Party faced series of challenges which nearly truncated the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) especially at the ward and local government levels.

The crisis and leadership tussle in APC necessitated the parallel congresses in affected 30 states including Oyo state.

Prior to the inauguration of the party Chairman in Oyo state, Chief Akin Oke and his executives, some aggrieved members pulled out of the party and formed ‘Unity Forum’ just like Reformed – APC led by Alhaji Galadima who is a former political ally of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Although, the crisis in Ido Local Government APC began in 2017 between Pastor Samuel Akintokun, who was the former party chairman in the council and some leaders of the party.

For more than six months, the party in the council has two factions, but that has finally been resolved as the ex-party chairman, Pastor Akintokun and some of his loyalists settled for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

As part of the reconciliation move by Oyo APC with aggrieved members, some leaders of the party have swung into action by appealing to them.

For three weeks now Mega Icon Magazine had attended general meetings of APC at Egbeda, Ibarapa North East LCDA,Oluyole and Ido local governments.

Asides Ibarapa North East LCDA APC meeting where the council boss, Hon Olanrewaju Olaosegba distributed empowerment materials and cash donations worth over seven million naira, Ido local government APC meeting is the mother of all.

The Ido motor park, venue of the meeting was filled with members of the party and loyalists of some aspirants with different placards and posters, relating peacefully with each other.

This signalled that peace is gradually returning to Ido APC as major actors in the progressive fold attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, those that belonged to the group of the then factional APC Chairman, Pastor Akintokun including a member representing Ido state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Safiu Olalere and some leaders of the group pledged their commitments to the Oyo APC.

Kudos to Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe who is also the Vice Chairman, Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Pa Olayiwola Lakondoro, Alhaji Bashiru Babalola, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, Ido Lg chief, Hon. Wahab Oladejo and other APC leaders for their efforts at reconciling with the aggrieved members.

What happened at Ido APC meeting is unique as leaders and wards’ chairmen unanimously adopted the Oyo state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela as the sole candidate from Ido local government to contest the forthcoming election in the Ido- Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the 2019 general elections.

APC in Ido local government has made a decision in terms of house of representatives candidate while pledging their total support for the Governor, Abiola Ajimobi Oyo South Senatorial bid.

Also, the Ido/Ibarapa East APC Elders’ Council led by Chief Timothy Jolaoso has adopted Professor Adeniyi Olowofela as its consensus candidate for Federal House of Representatives election in 2019.

The elders, who gathered at Ido Local Government Headquarters, after a brief meeting gave the endorsement on Friday.

While other constituencies are currently facing series of challenges, Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency has moved on and put the problems arising from the three congresses above them for the interest of peace, knowing fully well that it is only in an atmosphere of peace that any meaningful development can thrive.

In their separate reactions at Ido Lg APC meeting, the Council gaffer of Ido local government, Hon Wahab Oladeji, his Omi-Apata LCDA counterpart, Barrister Niyi Oyekunle and some aspirants maintained that the party is intact and there is no faction in Ido APC.

They explained that there is always room for the aggrieved members to come back to the progressive fold.

With much achievements in the Ido APC reconciliation process and on-going road constructions in every nook and cranny of the local government, especially Eleyele – Ido – Eruwa road; will the party sweep all their political positions as they did in the 2015 general elections?

Well time will tell..
