* Lauds old student’s contributions.
OYO state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela on Friday reiterated the state government’s commitment in the direction of the provision of quality education through adequate teaching and learning materials, adding that the government is supplying furniture to schools with series of renovation going on in most schools in the state with a view to make the learning environment friendly to the learners.
Olowofela stated this at the official commissioning of the newly renovated block of four classrooms and two staff rooms donated by 1991 set of Anwar-ul-Islam Grammar School, Eleyele in Ibadan, the state capital.
Applauding the efforts of the old students for improving the facilities of their unforgettable alma-mater and responding to the clarion call of the present administration for Public Private Partnership (PPP), the Commissioner noted , “it is a known fact that all over the world, the business of education has always been the joint collaborative efforts of the government, the private sectors, the philanthropists, and other stakeholders in education, all have immense roles to play in the education industry”.
Speaking further, Olowofela also charged the parents, “do not forget that you are the first teacher to these children, do not compromise standard nor substitute moral teachings for civilization. Give them what it takes to be successful in life like this 1991 set, visit the school on the day set aside for the open day as the class teacher and the subject teachers were readily available to give you all the details needed on your wards.
” Be it on moral or academics; cooperate with the School Governing Board members of your school to fast track the development programmes in the school”, he advised.
The Commissioner, however admonished the management of the school and the students to take good care of the facilities.
In his remarks, Senator Adesoji Akanbi representing Oyo South Senatorial District commended the state government for its firm approach towards reclaiming the lost glory of the state education sector through the launching of School Governing Board’ (SGB) policy as well as improving its quality.
Earlier in his welcome address, the National President of Anwar-ul-Islam Grammar School Old Students Association, Engr. Layi Alaka enumerated several contributions made by the association towards the provision of infrastructure in the school.
Alaka emphasized further that the major task at the national level is to coordinate, encourage and mobilize members to contribute to the development of their alma mater. ” We are to provide a level play ground and to sensitize individuals and sets to engage in healthy rivalry in the provision of infrastructural facilities and the general upliftment of educational standard in the school “.
