Oyo Commandant Reacts to Decline of Peace Corps Bill by Buhari

THE Oyo State Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Mr. Oludare  Adesina, on Tuesday reacted to the decline of presidential assent to the bill seeking to make the organization a government approved agency.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the Command’s Media Team in Ibadan.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday declined assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill, seeking to make the Corps a Federal Government security agency.

Adesina noted that the President’s assent of the bill would have assisted in providing massive employment for the teeming Nigerian youths who are eager to serve their fatherland.

He stressed further that the bill  is an avenue of educating,  training and reorientating the students on peace advocacy and organising human development programmes.

He, however charged officers and men of the command  to remain calm and optimistic as there is a second chance for the bill to be vetoed into law constitutionally by the two-third of the National Assembly.

He emphasized that the bill would be advantageous to the present government whose electoral mandate is to create employment for the youths.

“I would urge all Nigerian youths not to react negatively to the assent withheld to the NPC (Nigerian Peace Corps) Bill; though it has been hard but, let’s be of good cheer, hoping the NASS will do the rightful in no distance time”.
