In continuation of his service to humanity, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Ibarapa East /Ido Federal Constituency, Engr. Aderemi Oseni has given a new lease of life to over 200 widows and some less privileged constituents drawn from Erinkoja-Obe and Owode estate communities in Ido local government area of Oyo state.
The media office of the candidate states that the gesture was aimed to improve the living conditions, enhance their resources and increase the self-worth of the beneficiaries.
It added that the widows were supported with over five million Naira grants to add to their already existing small-scale businesses as well as cater to their immediate needs.
Oseni noted that he has been dedicating his time to giving back and helping those in need before now, most especially the widows who are being subjected to all manner of inhuman treatments under the guise of customs and traditions.
Meanwhile, in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the cleric cum businessman further explained that the essence of the gesture was to give help and hope to the beneficiaries, especially the widows, so they can understand that the death of their spouses does not mean the end of their lives, but rather have a life to live and children to cater for.
According to Oseni, “The gesture is not a new idea, this is what I have been doing for several years as part of my ministries, it is part and parcel of me. To His glory alone, God has used me to give scholarships to many students, empowered the widows and the needy, pay their medical bills, render financial support, sponsored overseas trips and provide employment opportunities among others, through my foundation.
“The money released is not a loan, we have over 200 widows and the needy benefitting from this grant, we are just doing our best to help them in our communities. The welfare and well-being of my people are my utmost priority because everyone deserves a better life. In all, we gave out more than N5million, we will still do more”, Oseni stated.
While describing the issue of widowhood in Nigeria as a pathetic one, the APC candidate called for the eradication of such practices that stigmatizes and made society turns their back against them thus subjecting them to untold hardships as a result of primitive tradition and customs.
