The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has postponed indefinitely its planned Mega Open Air Stakeholders’ Meeting earlier scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Tuesday next week.
The party said the decision was taken to allow for broader consultations and more comprehensive planning.
The meeting, being organised by the state leadership of the APC in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, was aimed at consolidating the party’s ongoing intra-party reconciliation drive, which has reportedly been implemented across the 14 federal constituencies in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Olawale Sadare, said a new date for the meeting would be announced soon.
He explained that the initiative was conceived to deepen peace, unity and cohesion among party leaders and members, adding that the party remained committed to showcasing its readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Recently, we demonstrated that our party has an effective mechanism for resolving internal crises that slowed down our progress since 2019,” Sadare said. “
This became evident after the successful open-air stakeholders’ meetings held in all the 14 federal constituencies, following the maiden edition at our state secretariat in Ibadan.”
Sadare noted that the postponed meeting was expected to involve a wider range of stakeholders from within and outside the state, stressing that the APC was united by a common objective.
According to him, many Nigerians desire a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enable him to consolidate the achievements of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We want to start early and ensure a smooth and productive electioneering process,” he said.
“Our goal is to return the President for a second term and also reclaim power in Oyo State in 2027.”
The APC spokesperson added that the proposed meeting would also serve as a platform to formally receive prominent politicians and their supporters defecting from other political parties into the APC.
“We do not want anyone to doubt the massive support and votes that the APC will secure for its candidates in the next general elections. That is why we intend to demonstrate our strength, preparedness and determination at the right time,” he added.
