Oyo APC hails Ajimobi over honour on ‘Great Lam’, others

The All Progressives Congress (APC)  in Oyo State has lauded Governor Abiola Ajimobi on the choice of public edifices renamed after some prominent persons who were recognized to have served humanity meritoriously and contributed their quota to the development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

The Oyo State government on Tuesday announced its decision to rename both its College of Agriculture in Igboora and the recently dualized Efunsetan- Orita Challenge Road in Ibadan after the late former governor, Alhaji Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina, while some other prominent indigenes of the state were not left out as notable public facilities were renamed after them.

Addressing journalists at the APC Secretariat in Ibadan on Thursday, the Party’s State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, described the honour done on late Adesina as “well-deserved and gratifying in view of his indelible record of service to humanity in general and Oyo State in particular.

“We in the Progressive fold are particularly glad that our departed leader would have to be immortalized with such befitting public edifices. Sen. Ajimobi has done us proud again and the whole would forever appreciate his kind gesture.

“Same goes for other eminent personalities such as Oba Lamidi Adeyemi lll (The Alaafin of Oyo), Oba Saliu Adetunji (The Olubadan of Ibadanland), Oba Jimoh Oyewumi (The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and late Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin who were so immortalized.

“This singular gesture would go a long way to encourage other people to do all within their capacity to serve well and benefit humanity as much as they can especially when they have the opportunity. The announcement could not have come at a better time in view of the fact contemporary leaders would have to strive and beat the record of those who have served before them and left the scene with their heads high.

“Apart from being the executive governor who laid the foundation of democracy in the state in this Fourth Republic, Alh. Lam Adesina was a fantastic educationist, columnist, human right activist and parliamentarian who did not spare any opportunity to impart positively on the lives of his people while he was alive. Everyone who claims to be Lam’s disciple should be in the APC now with this development.

“Honoring such an enigma with worthy public edifices is a fantastic thing that only a wonderful mind can deliver. Sen. Ajimobi has again given a life to the section of our National Anthem which states that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. In view of this, the entire global Progressive family are grateful to the Architect of Modern Oyo State.” Oke added.
