DAY by day, the 2019 general elections is fast approaching and preparation from political parties have begun despite the non passage of INEC budget by the National Assembly.

Yet, the country electoral umpire chaired by Prof Mahmood Yakub is assuring Nigerians of credible polls in 2019.

The essence of this article is to educate our readers with adequate information about those eyeing the Agodi Government House.

Therefore, this article will also adopt ‘plus or minus method’ to clearly states the chances of each governorship candidates.

Asides from his intimidating academic profile, the son of late Pa Oguntegbe in Labo area of Ibadan metropolis is endowed with knowledge, skills and human face.

Having successfully contributed positively to KPMG in Nigeria, Egnr Olasunkanmi Tegbe is capable of occupying the number seat in the state because he knows where shoe pinches.

Plus or Minus

It is a plus for Tegbe being an Ibadan indigene and Oyo town affiliation while his aggressive campaign and ability to reach the party leaders and stakeholders is another advantage.

However, there is a little minus on Tegbe’s aspiration, most especially on his political experience and party politics. Besides this, Tegbe is a good man for the job.

Who is Dr Adeduntan?

Dr Azeez Popoola Adeduntan is an international surgeon and current Commissioner for Health, Oyo state. Adeduntan is not new in the state political system.

Dr Adeduntan had earlier made attempts aimed at becoming the number citizen of the Pace setter state in 2011, 2015 under the Labour Party, (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.

The Oja’ ba born politician has contributed meaningfully to the health sector by reducing to a bare minimum any form of quack practices in all private medical facilities and government-owned hospitals.

He also added value through the 50 billion Naira Endowment Fund and Health Insurance scheme.

Dr Adeduntan is a recognized international vascular surgeon with humility and deep experience, if not his passion for the development of the state, people will be wondering what this forward humble man is looking for if; not to serve.

Plus or Minus

Dr Azeez Adeduntan’s international connection, political experience and giant strides are plus.

The incumbent Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi hails from Oja’ba, the same place with Adeduntan. Though, experienced and highly cerebral, but lacks grassroots appeal, these may be minus on his side.

Why Bayo Adelabu for Governor?

The name, Bayo Adelabu needs no introduction in the Oyo state political scene, mostly because of his humble family background.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu who is the Parakoyi of Ibadan land and immediate Past Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria is also the grand son of late political icon, Alhaji Adegoke Adelabu popularly called Penkelemesi.

Bayo Adelabu is one of the vibrant youth that the state is yarning for to run the affairs of the state with his experience in management and banking sector.

The first class graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife , Osun state had contributed greatly to the development of Oyo State when he was CBN Deputy Governor, Operations and through Bayo Adelabu foundation.

Plus or Minus

The age factor which is on the side of Chief Adelabu and his grandfather’s name as well as personal effort to facilitate CBN Project to the Technical University is a plus for him while lack of rural connectivity and familiarity with the APC chieftains may be the stumbling block and minus on his side.

Apart from this, Chief Adebayo Adelabu is eminently qualified to govern the state come 2019.

The next edition on this issue will focus on the chances of the current secretary to the state government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli, Business magnate and Ibarapa born Industrialist, Dr Olusola Ayandele, former Head of Service of Oyo state, Mr Soji Eniade, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Ajiboye Omodewu, veteran journalist and Onipe born politician, Mr Kehinde Olaosebikan amongst others.
