Although many of the opposition parties have been silent after the 2015 general elections for many reasons, such as leadership, financial as well as sundry challenges, however, the collective declaration of support for the legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria has further crippled opposition parties in the council.

After years of uncertainty, the political forces belief here comes the much anticipated and right time for the council to rule the state thus political activities have begun in earnest.

While the opposition parties continue to grapple with dwindling popularity in the council, occasioned by the bandwagon effect, with mostly top politicians ditching the party for the new bride, Akintola, the APC in order to remain relevant especially at the centre, the popularity of the APC however continues to swell by the day, despite the perceived crisis rocking the party.

Akintola is enjoying a strong support base which could be likened to that of Mr. Yekeen Adeojo, another prominent son of the council when he was eyeing the most exalted post in the state, political forces declared total support for his then political party- the NRC and PDP respectively .

Recently, the wise and witty lawyer, Akintola joined the horse race to Agodi Government House, saying that his ambition is a clarion call from the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), an umbrella body for all the socio-cultural societies and clubs of Ibadan extraction both at home and in diaspora.

However, loyalists to Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the council are still waiting for directive before declaring support for their consanguine.
