The apex court, supreme court on Friday upheld Gboyega Oyetola, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of Osun state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Oyetola winner of the Osun governorship election after a controversial rerun in September 2018.
Challenging INEC’s declaration, the PDP guber nominee, Sen. Ademola Adeleke had also filed a petition against Oyetola’s victory at the tribunal.
Meanwhile, the tribunal declared Adeleke winner of the election in March. Gboyega also appealed the verdict of the tribunal and in May, the appeal court judgement favoured the APC candidate and the present occupant of the most exalted seat in Osun State.
The court set aside the entire proceedings of the tribunal, saying that the tribunal panel was not well constituted.
At the apex court today, five of the seven judges on the panel were in favour of Oyetola, leaving Adeleke with just two, TheCable reports.
