A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on the occasion of his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary.
Oseni, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, described the dual celebration as historic and symbolic, noting that the monarch’s reign in the last year has brought peace, unity, and dignity to Ibadanland.
In a statement by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, and made available to journalists on Saturday, the lawmaker said Oba Olakulehin has shown exceptional wisdom and fatherly leadership since his ascension to the throne.
He said, “Kabiyesi’s 90th birthday is not just a celebration of age, but a celebration of legacy and leadership. Within just one year on the throne, His Imperial Majesty has deepened unity, strengthened culture, and upheld the dignity of the Ibadan traditional institution.
“Your Majesty’s reign is a blessing to Ibadanland and indeed the Yoruba nation. We are proud of your peaceful and progressive leadership, and we pray that God continues to grant you long life and wisdom to lead our people.”
Oba Olakulehin, who was born on July 5, 1935, became the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
His first coronation anniversary, coming barely a week after his 90th birthday, has been marked with tributes from political leaders, traditional rulers, and cultural stakeholders across the country.
Oseni described the monarch as a “symbol of unity and cultural preservation”, adding that his leadership has helped sustain peace and development in the ancient city.
The APC chieftain urged the people of Ibadan to continue supporting the monarch in his efforts to preserve the customs, values, and collective identity of Ibadanland.
