Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced the nomination of Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the Deputy Governor of the state.

Adelami, a native of Owo, the hometown of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, brings with him a wealth of experience as a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.

The governor has forwarded the name of Adelami to the Ondo State House of Assembly for approval, marking a significant step in the political landscape of the South-West state. This development comes on the heels of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s decision to relieve all commissioners, senior special assistants (SSAs), and special assistants (SAs) appointed by his predecessor, Akeredolu.

In a bid for a fresh start, the outgoing officials have been instructed to promptly hand over their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, 59, assumed office as the substantive governor on December 27, 2023, following the unfortunate demise of Governor Akeredolu. Notably, the new governor, hailing from the Ilaje Local Government Area, represents Ondo South, while the late governor was from the Owo Local Government Area in Ondo North.

Despite expectations of the deputy governor being selected from Ondo Central, Governor Aiyedatiwa, a former commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), opted for Olayide Owolabi Adelami from Owo, maintaining a regional balance and adhering to the politics of power rotation within the state.

Adelami’s nomination now awaits the scrutiny and approval of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
