In a heartfelt message to Christians on the occasion of Christmas, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, on Monday, urged followers of Christ to reflect on the blessings of life and commit to righteousness and love for all.

Alongside this, the Deputy Chairman, of Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, also addressed the recent social media buzz surrounding the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye sitting on a royal chair during an evangelism programme in Orile-Igbon, Surulere local government.

“I urge all followers of Christ in Nigeria to use this period to reflect on the multiple blessings of God, particularly the grace to be alive to witness another Christmas,” stated Oba Alao in his Christmas message.

“Christmas is a time to make a new commitment to ensuring that our lives mirror Christ in every way,” the revered monarch added, emphasising the importance of righteousness, honesty, and love.

Addressing the controversy surrounding Pastor Adeboye’s use of a ceremonial royal chair, Oba Alao clarified the circumstances.

Olugbon explained, “Pastor Adeboye was in Orile-Igbon for an evangelism programme. His chopper landed in an open space within the palace, and I received him in my living room.

“As a mark of honour, I offered one of the ceremonial royal chairs, not the one reserved for the Olugbon, for him to use at the programme.”

Oba Alao emphasised the significance of the royal chairs, stating, “The throne of the ancient town of Orile-Igbon remains sacrosanct. There is a traditional royal chair meant for only the Kabiyesi, and there are traditional ceremonial chairs for very important persons.”

The monarch, however, sought understanding from those expressing concern, thanking well-wishers for their support.
