Ogbomoso: Popular Akande market gutted by fire, over 100 millions lost to the inferno

POPULAR Akande Market in Ogbomoso, Oyo state was on Tuesday evening gutted by fire, as goods worth hundreds of million of Naira got destroyed, Mega Icon Magazine reliably gathered. 

At least 30 shops were reportedly razed by fire at the market which was situated at Caretaker axis of Ogbomoso.

According to sources, the market fire incident was said to have started at about 7pm and virtually all the shops occupied by the traders were affected.

A victim, who also suffered a monumental loss lamented over how the occupants of the market lost everything, stressing that they couldn’t get any help from the men of the Fire Service to rescue the situation.

“Immediately the incident started, calls were put through to them but there was no positive response based on logistic.

” If they had come earlier, the damages wouldn’t be this much because the fire wouldn’t spread to where it gets to but you know its harmattan, everything is dry”, he added.

The lawmaker representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akande who couldn’t control his emotions wept profusely when he got to the scene this morning.

Solomon Akande said he was sad that such tragic incident happens at this moment when people are managing resources.

As at the time of filing this report, probe on to ascertain the cause of Akande market blaze was yet to be detected.
