The Vice Chairman, South-west Agenda ‘23 (SWAGA), Senator Adesoji Akanbi has said that the death of the former Spokesperson of the Pro-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Comrade Odumakin is a huge loss to the country.
Akanbi further described the human rights defender’s death as shocking.
Odumakin, according to his wife, Dr. Josephine Okei-Odumakin, died just when his condition was improving. She disclosed he had been ill since March 10 and was recuperating.
“He has been battling for his life since March 10 and just when he was improving, a respiratory failure occurred”.
He died at the intensive care unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Saturday as a result of respiratory issues due to COVID-19 complications
However, the former lawmaker, Akanbi, who represented Oyo South senatorial district between 2015-2019 noted that Odumakin was a true patriot whose loyalty to Nigeria can never be questioned.
“We were together in the Afenifere Renewal Group and I can confidently say he was a man whose loyalty to any cause that will develop Nigeria was always intact,” the APC chieftain mourned.
