A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Batch ‘A’ stream II member with state code Oy/16A/2547, and NYSC code : NYSC/ANU/2016/077068, Orie Chioma Ethel, from Abia State has launched a series of Community Development Service (CDS) projects in Omi -Adio, Ibadan. The project, which was commissioned recently included : Zebra crossing drawing at Omi -Adio, along Ibadan /Abeokuta Expressway, two (2 ) pedestrian crossing signs, six (6) ring waste bin stand, six (6) baskets, and two (2 ) school sign posts donated to United Christian Secondary School, Omi -Adio.

Chioma told Mega Icon Magazine that she was moved to make the donation because she loves leaving a landmark and legacy. “I noticed that my place of primary assignment, (PPP) don’t have a clear good sign post for easy location, the students also throw waste dirty around the school premises, the motorists speed at a high level without considering the pedestrian crossing.

“The very first day I reported to my place of primary assignment, (PPP) after NYSC camp I couldn’t locate my school because of bad sign post, if not for the help of the Bike man. I wouldn’t want that to happen to another new Corper or visitors to the school that was why I set up the two (2) school sign posts.

“For the Zebra crossing drawing is to safe lives and properties of the people, and the community at large. While the waste bin is to keep the school neat always”.

Also, she averred that the project did not go without some challenges while mobilizing support.

According to her, “well, it was stressful! Some will say come today, come tomorrow, while others will even stop picking your calls, if they see you coming they change to a different direction. Some pastors will even give you exquses to avoid giving you a dam, and language barriers among others . But, there were some good Nigerians that supported me.

“The experience was just come today come tomorrow. The highest fund raised came from church members and a pastor so it was holy ghost filled and no sexual harassment”.

While thanking her sponsors for making the project possible, she however counselled the youths that education with God’s backing leads to higher heights in life, advising them to choose their friends wisely, saying that bad company corrupts good manners.

Chioma added, “God first in all that you do. And finally, always impact lives anywhere you go”.
