WHEN it comes to the promotion of the sporting sector; Nigerian Breweries PLC is playing a vital role in respect to the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as regards the growth and development in the potentialities of young tennis players.
As revealed at the press conference held at the Ibadan Recreation Club recently, it was noted by the Vice Chairman of the Tennis Club, Olaitan Babalola “the Nigerian Breweries has answered the need for the growth of young players in the Tennis sector in Oyo state, and Nigeria at large. The sponsorship also includes encouragement for older players, known as Veterans aging above 50 years.
“This kind gesture has being in existence for 13 years without any disappointment even in the face of various economic instability the country has faced over the years”, he added.
Also speaking at the conference, Abdulmumin Babalola, the Nigeria’s number one Tennis star and the current coach of the Club informed, ” I am a beneficiary of the tournament over the years due to the steadfastness of the company’s support. I won the competition 4 times. This tournament serves as my stepping stone to the greatness achieved today.
“This edition will be challenging because the number of young players in the field has increased tremendously, and the prizes for the different categories are very attractive. It is a challenge any serious player can never take for granted.
Babalola continued, ” this kind of support is expected from many organizations in the country, just for the need to develop the sport industry at large and help to reduce the burden on the government”.
The competition is billed to take place at the Ibadan Recreation Club with four categories; Single (male and female), Doubles (male and female), Doubles Veterans (age 50-65) and Super Veterans (65 and above).
