#NigeriaAt64: Tinubu Announces 30-Day National Youth Conference

President Bola Tinubu has announced a 30-day National Youth Conference to engage the country’s youth in national development.

The conference, aimed at tackling the challenges faced by Nigerian youths, was revealed on Tuesday during his broadcast marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary.

Speaking during his second Independence Day address since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Tinubu emphasised the importance of youth involvement in shaping the country’s future.

He noted that the modalities and selection process for delegates would be worked out as soon as possible.

“As we work to overcome the challenges of the day, we remain mindful of the next generation as we seek to galvanize their creative energy towards a better future,” Tinubu said.

He reiterated that today’s leadership must focus on the future, ensuring that young Nigerians are actively involved in shaping the nation.

He further stated, “I am pleased to announce the gathering of a National Youth Conference. This conference will be a platform to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people, who constitute more than 60 percent of our population.”

The conference, set to last 30 days, will provide a forum for Nigerian youths to discuss key issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice.

Tinubu stressed that the government would design the modalities for the conference in close collaboration with youth representatives, ensuring that their aspirations are central to the discussions.

“The government will thoroughly consider and implement the recommendations and outcomes from this forum as we remain resolute in our mission to build a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria,” Tinubu added.

In addition to the youth conference, President Tinubu spoke on broader national issues, highlighting his administration’s efforts to reform the country’s political economy and defence architecture.

He reaffirmed his commitment to winning the war against banditry and terrorism, ensuring that displaced farmers can return to their farmlands and help reduce soaring food prices.

The President also commended the resilience of Nigerians, noting that the country has withstood challenges that have led to the disintegration of other nations.
