The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 35-year-old woman, Chidinma Chinenye Agbazue, for attempting to smuggle 20 parcels of cannabis sativa, weighing 10.70 kilograms, disguised in African salad, commonly known as Abacha, and dried vegetables.

In a statement released by NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, it was revealed that Agbazue was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos State, while trying to export the illicit substance to Doha, Qatar.

“NDLEA officers at the Lagos airport working in partnership with men of the Department of State Security had on Thursday 28th March intercepted Chidinma, an outbound passenger from Lagos to Doha, on Qatar Airways during clearance of passengers at the screening point of terminal 11 of the MMIA,” the statement disclosed.

Preliminary investigations unveiled that Agbazue, who had been residing in Qatar, returned to Nigeria last December for the Christmas celebration.

She confessed that during her stay, she was entrusted with the task of transporting the contraband to Qatar.

“She said preparatory to her return to Doha, she was lodged at Club Dice Hotel in Ikotun area of Lagos where the consignment was handed over to her for trafficking to the Arab country,” the statement further elucidated.

Agbazue is currently in NDLEA custody as investigations continue into the matter.
