In a solemn yet spirited gathering, residents of Abuja convened at the Unity Fountain on Friday evening to pay tribute to the late singer, Mohbad, whose untimely demise continues to spark controversy and demands for justice.
The Lagos-born artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, tragically passed away last week under circumstances that have raised numerous questions.
This unfortunate event has stirred widespread discussions and spurred Nigerians into action, with many taking to the streets to demand answers.
The candlelight procession and concert in Abuja mirrored a similar event held by Lagosians, further amplifying the calls for justice. Starting at 7 p.m., participants donned predominantly white attire and carried placards bearing poignant messages.
They swayed to the melodies of Mohbad’s songs, turning the gathering into a heartfelt celebration of his music and a plea for accountability. Among the attendees was Nollywood star Tonko Dikeh, showing solidarity with the cause.
Prior to the Abuja gathering, protests had erupted across the country, driven by young fans who were determined to seek justice for the “Peace” crooner.
In Calabar, Cross Rivers State, residents took to the streets, denouncing members of Mohbad’s former record label, Marlian Music, over allegations of bullying and harassment.
Taraba witnessed a similar outpouring of support as residents lit candles and paid homage to the 27-year-old singer. Even beyond Nigeria’s borders, Mohbad’s cause found resonance, as a massive billboard in New York prominently displayed his image.
The global call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continued to gain momentum. In a recent development, the police authorities exhumed Mohbad’s body from his graveside in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, only a few days after his burial.
An autopsy has been conducted, but the results are still pending, as stated by Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
As the nation and the world await the results of the autopsy, the candlelight processions and protests stand as powerful reminders that the quest for justice for the late Mohbad remains unwavering, echoing the sentiments of a grieving nation and global community.
