The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Maitama Tuggar has stated that, with the Siemens gas deal between Nigeria and Germany, there will be a significant enhancement in electricity supply for Nigerians by the first half of 2024.
Tuggar conveyed this message virtually from Berlin on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
He emphasised that the challenges faced in the past would be effectively addressed under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2018 commitment to boost Nigeria’s electricity capacity to 25,000 megawatts by 2025 through the Siemens Energy deal is now progressing, according to Tuggar, who assured that the project is “fully back.”
The minister also highlighted the positive aspects of the gas deal, emphasising that exporting gas to Germany won’t compromise Nigeria’s domestic gas needs.
He underscored the interconnected nature of the initiatives, stating that revenue from gas exports would be reinvested to expand electricity and gas access across Nigeria.
Tuggar additionally noted that the completion of the Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) project would contribute to the improvement of electricity supply.
