The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared October 2nd as a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 63rd Independence Day.

This announcement was made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade in Abuja.

Dr. Olubunmi acknowledged the global challenges, both in terms of socio-economic difficulties and security issues, which are affecting nations worldwide, including Nigeria.

However, he reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing these challenges to reassure the Nigerian populace.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s welcoming spirit, its abundant human capital, and the richness of its land make it an undeniable leader among black nations globally, serving as a source of pride for Africa and a beacon of hope.

“While wishing the citizens a memorable independence celebration, the Minister recalls that our founding fathers, in spite of the differences in faith, tribe, and tongue, came together for Nigeria’s freedom which we enjoy today.”

Dr. Olubunmi assured citizens that the current administration, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda, is dedicated to fostering a better Nigeria for all, as a fitting tribute to the heroes of the past.
