Manchester United have been handed a double boost with the return to full training of Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia.
Matic and Valencia both left United’s US tour early last month after suffering injury problems, but could be fit to face Tottenham in the Premier League on Monday at Old Trafford.
The return of the duo would be a huge boost to boss Jose Mourinho, who is under pressure following United’s abject 3-2 defeat away to Brighton last Sunday.
United have badly missed the midfield presence of Matic, who underwent abdominal surgery in the US a month ago, but he is now in contention to face Spurs.
Captain and right-back Valencia flew back from United’s US tour after just two games, having suffered a calf problem, but he too is pushing to be included in the squad to face Spurs.
But Alexis Sanchez, who missed the defeat at Brighton with an unspecified problem, is unlikely to be fit to face Spurs, in a game United cannot afford to lose.
Jose Mourinho could also welcome Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot back in the coming weeks.
Rojo has been out of action since the World Cup and there were suggestions he would leave the club this summer.
The Argentine took to Instagram to confirm he was closing in on a return, posting: “not long now”.
Dalot meanwhile hasn’t played since his summer arrival from Porto.
The 19-year-old picked up a knee problem last season and underwent surgery in the summer.
But he also took to social media on Wednesday as he tweeted an emoji which said ‘back soon.’
