Manchester City will be without Fernandinho for the first time in a Premier League clash this season when they face Arsenal after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup final.
The 32-year-old has featured in all 27 of Manchester City’s league fixtures, starting all but one of them, but will find himself out of the squad for the clash with Arsenal.
Though City has confirmed his injury is not too serious but the rematch with the Gunners will come too soon for him.
After winning the Carabao Cup 3-0, Pep Guardiola outlined his importance to his side. ‘He’s a big, big loss,’ said Guardiola.
‘Now we have to find a solution, to find out which players can play in the Fernandinho position.
Now we have a problem in that area.’ A statement from the club read on Tuesday: ‘Scans have shown Fernandinho suffered a hamstring strain during the Carabao Cup victory over Arsenal.
‘The Brazilian was withdrawn after 52 minutes of City’s Wembley win, but thankfully the initial prognosis suggests the problem isn’t serious.
‘No timescale has yet been set for his return but the Premier League game against the Gunners on Thursday will come too soon.
‘He has played in every league game this season, scoring three goals, with Pep Guardiola describing [him] as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football.
‘Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery.’
