Manchester City confirms £60million deal for Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez believes he can help bring more success to Manchester City after finally completing his club record £60million switch from Leicester.

City finally ended their seven-month pursuit of Mahrez last night and his fee eclipses the £57.2million they paid for Aymeric Laporte in January.

Mahrez is excited about joining City after watching them win the Premier League in record-breaking style last season.

“To reach 100 points and break the records was amazing for the club,” said the Algerian playmaker. “I hope we can continue at the same level or maybe more.

“Manchester City is a very big club with very big players and with the confidence gained from last year, I think this season will be a very good season. I’m very confident about it and I think we can do big things together.

“I want to win titles and I know that this is the best club to try and win things. With this manager and this team, everything is here.”

Mahrez, 27, passed his medical yesterday and has signed a five-year deal with City.

The 2016 PFA Players’ Player of the Year will wear No 26 and says he is relishing playing under Pep Guardiola.

“When you see his team, you know it’s a Guardiola team,” he said.

“He has his print on the team and I’m very happy to play under him. I hope we will achieve a lot of things together.”
