Manchester City have set a new record for successive victories in the Premier League after beating rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi secured the three points for Pep Guardiola’s side in Sunday’s much-anticipated clash.
The win was City’s 14th consecutive triumph, breaking the record of 13 successive league wins in a single season set by Chelsea, Arsenal, Preston and Sunderland.
Chelsea achieved the feat last season under Antonio Conte as they won the title for the second time in the space of three years.
Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal did so in 2001-02, while Preston and Sunderland both enjoyed their sensational runs in 1991-92.
City’s win also brought an end to United’s incredible home record – Jose Mourinho’s side last tasted defeat at Old Trafford in September 2016.
Guardiola’s charge are now 11 points clear at the top of the table after 16 games and face Swansea City, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace before the turn of the New Year.
United, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back against Bournemouth on Wednesday before they take on West Brom, Leicester City, Burnley and Southampton over the festive period.
