Man Utd star Paul Pogba demands new position after row with Jose Mourinho

Paul Pogba has exchanged words with Jose Mourinho and demanded a change in Manchester United’s formation to grant him more freedom, according to reports.

The Frenchman, United’s club-record signing, has been desperately out of form since the turn of the year, and was even dropped by his manager for the recent Premier League win over Huddersfield.

critics and pundits believe Pogba has become a luxury player they cannot continue to pander to, with his role as part of a two-man midfield frequently exposing United.

And it appears Pogba shares those concerns and, according to the Daily Record, has requested that Mourinho alter the team’s shape and grant him an attacking role on the left side of midfield three.

United have generally lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal in January, with Pogba loosely sitting in front of the defence.

But he is unhappy and feels his ability to influence matches has been reduced due to the defensive duties he is expected to perform, and wants to be given a freer role.

Mourinho is not of the same opinion, however, and believes Pogba’s physical and technical qualities should make him capable of excelling alongside Nemanja Matic.

The Portuguese coach is growing frustrated with how little Pogba adheres to tactical instructions in terms of his defensive contribution and how he uses the ball when in possession.

publication L’Equipe are running a similar article, and say that Pogba is so annoyed with his current role he now has ‘some regrets’ about returning to Old Trafford in the first place.
