The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a businessman, Ibeanusi Solomon Nosike, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, after he was found in possession of 68 wraps of cocaine.
Nosike, a 36-year-old businessman from Onitsha, Anambra State, was arrested on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the old domestic terminal of the Lagos airport.
He was attempting to board an early morning flight to Abuja, from where he intended to catch a Qatar Airways flight to Vietnam later in the day.
According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi on Sunday, Nosike had been under surveillance since his arrival in Lagos from Anambra State on August 7.
Acting on intelligence, NDLEA operatives monitored Nosike’s movements after he lodged in a hotel where he ingested 68 wraps of cocaine.
“He was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport and immediately placed under excretion observation. Over the course of 12 days, Nosike excreted all 68 wraps of cocaine, weighing a total of 1.282 kilograms,” Babafemi revealed.
This arrest is part of a broader effort by the NDLEA to clamp down on drug trafficking within Nigeria’s borders.
On the same day, August 8, another Vietnam-bound businessman, Paul Mbadugha, was apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after tests revealed he had ingested cocaine.
Mbadugha eventually excreted 88 wraps of the drug, weighing 1.710 kilograms.
