Kevin De Bruyne claims it was easy to commit his future to Manchester City because they are one of the best clubs in the world.
De Bruyne’s decision to agree a two-year contract extension to tie him to the Etihad until 2023 made up for any City disappointment at missing out on Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
De Bruyne, 26, who becomes City’s second highest-earner just behind Sergio Aguero on £250,000-a-week, follows Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho in signing new deals.
The Belgian playmaker explained why he is staying at City, saying: “It was pretty easy.
“Obviously you hear a lot of people talk about other clubs, but I think at the moment we are one of the best clubs in the world.
“The way this club is working as a whole unit is unbelievable. I’ve never witnessed it in other clubs before like that. The project is very good, with a lot of young players coming through so I’m happy to also build with this team.”
De Bruyne, who is City’s record signing at £55million, hopes his fine displays will bring trophies for the Quadruple-chasing Blues.
“I’m trying to progress and I’m trying to do things so my team can win titles,” he said. “We’re in a good way this season, but obviously the biggest part is still coming. Hopefully at the end of the season we can celebrate with a few titles.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Kevin’s new deal is great news for our Club.
“He has shown this season how important he is to the team and has been integral in everything we’ve done so far.
“We are thrilled he has committed his long-term future to Manchester City.”
