Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the appointment of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The governor’s decision conveyed through a memo signed on June 14, 2024, cites the powers vested in him by Section 19 (Cap 28) Law of Oyo State 2000 as amended.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, confirmed the approval.
This approval follows due processes as stipulated by the laws governing ascension to royal thrones in the state.
Governor Makinde expressed his congratulations to the new Olubadan and offered prayers for a successful tenure marked by progress and development in Ibadanland and Oyo State at large.
The vacancy in the Olubadan stool arose following the passing of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who ruled for two years and passed away at the age of 81 on March 14, 2024.
