The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Friday officially flagged off the Migrant ‘E‘ Registration Exercise, just as he reiterated his administration’s readiness to provide peace, safety and adequate security of lives and property to the people in the State.
Governor Makinde, also emphasized that no meaningful development can take place in a chaotic environment.
Speaking further at the event which was held at the Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Agodi, Ibadan, the state gaffer, Makinde explained that the Migration ‘E’ Registration will enhance internal security by identifying, verifying and determining the migration status of resident migrants in the State in particular.
“This administration places high premium on peace, safety and security of lives and property as no meaningful development can take place in any place where is there is no adequate security. This is because no investor would want to invest in a place where his money will go down the drains.
“Where there is no peace, there can be no development hence I appreciate the introduction of this migrant ‘E’ Registration and thereby further perceiving this service as a good partner in progress and capable of living up to their security expectations”, said Makinde.
The Governor thereby admonished and directed all employers of foreigners and their landlords in the state to see it as point duty to key into the laudable program of migrant ‘E’ Registration as the benefit of it cannot be overemphasized.
‘Ensure that the foreigners/Migrants in your employment or house who are eligible for migrant ‘E’ Registration do so on time. The benefits of this laudable program to the country and the migrants cannot be overemphasized.’
He therefore called for hundred percent compliance of registration by eligible migrant without any waste of time adding that it will enhance the State internal security and make security agencies have access information from data base if the need arises.
“It will enhance our internal security, migrant is secured under Immigration responsibility and above all other security Agencies can access information from data base if the need arises and it can be to track undesirable foreign elements in our nation.
“As I flag off this migrant ‘E’ Registration in Oyo State today, I expect one hundred percent compliance from eligible migrants without any waste of time”, the Governor added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service Oyo State Command, Mr. Saleh Abdullahi stated that the migrant ‘E’ Registration entails the enrollment and biometric capturing of all migrants residing in all 33 Local Government areas of Oyo State or who may wish to stay for a period more than 90 days in line with Section 57 Sub-section 5 of the Immigration Acts of 2015.
“The main purpose of this noble exercise is to enhance security by verifying, identifying and determining the Migration Status of resident migrants in the state in particular and, by extension, in Nigeria in general.”
