In a testimony on Wednesday, Disc Jockey (DJ) Ajisegiri Ayobami informed Lagos Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi that the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, passed away after receiving an injection from a nurse.

Ayobami, who was with Mohbad on the day of his demise, also revealed that the singer had vomited the noodles prepared by his brother, Adura Aloba, before receiving medical treatment.

The witness recounted that the day before, on a Sunday, they attended a show in Ikorodu. On their way back, their Prado Jeep was blocked, and Mohbad got into a scuffle with his friend, Primeboy, resulting in a small cut on his hand, which later swelled.

Ayobami and others in the house attempted to contact Mohbad’s personal nurse, who was unavailable. Instead, one of their team members, Spending, called a nurse who came to administer an injection.

Ayobami explained, “The nurse said we should go and get him drugs. While we were at the pharmacy, I called the house to know how he was feeling, and they said I should come back.”

Upon returning, they were attempting to transport him to the hospital in a neighbour’s car when Ayobami observed Mohbad in a lifeless state with closed eyes and falling hands.

In the midst of traffic en route to the hospital, Ayobami left the vehicle and ran to the hospital. He inquired about an ambulance but was told there wasn’t one. By the time he returned, Mohbad had been brought to the hospital on a bike and was later confirmed dead.

Also, Mohbad’s mother, Mrs. Abosede Aloba, disclosed during the coroner’s inquest that her late son was initially meant to be a pastor, as prophesied when he was born. She had lost contact with him and didn’t realise he had become a musician until they reconnected in 2019.

She mentioned that her son had accused Naira Marley of wanting to harm him, and they had even visited Naira Marley’s house in an attempt to resolve the issue. Despite their apologies, Mohbad still believed Naira Marley had ill intentions toward him.

Mr. Joseph Aloba, the late singer’s father, told the inquest that Naira Marley’s associates had assaulted him. He described how his son had filed a petition against Naira Marley for threats to his life. Following this, Mohbad terminated his contract with Marlian’s Record, owned by Naira Marley, which led to ongoing troubles.

In August, his son was attacked by Sam Larry and his associates while recording a video with Zlatan in the Elegushi area. Such attacks were frequent when they were in the Sam Larry axis of Lekki for shows.

Mohbad had also filed a petition against Sam Larry with the Nigerian Police regarding the assaults, but no action was taken.

Magistrate Shotobi adjourned the proceedings to November 7.
