THE Old Students Association of Lagelu Grammar School has committed at least N200m to rehabilitate the school and provide infrastructure, just as the school prepares for its 60th Founders’ day celebration.
Mr. Tony Aletor who is the Chairman Anniversary Committee of LAGSCOBA 60th anniversary, unearthed this on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital saying that the association has renovated all the blocks of classrooms in the school as well as the administrative block.
Aletor confirmed that the association has constructed an alumni centre with state of the art equipments, renovated and equipped the laboratories, reconstructed the school hall named Ayo Labiyi Hall and the construction of modern e-library labelled Osuntokun eLibrary.
He stressed that the road which leads into the school has been dualised with landscaping for aesthetic development, pointing out that all the buildings in the school have been modernized and wearing new looks.
The Lagelu 60th anniversary chairman explained that the activities marking the 60th Founders’ day celebration will hold between January 21 and 27, 2018 beginning with an Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Church Service at the School Hall on Sunday and followed by a PEACE WALK on Monday which will commence from the historic Mapo Hall, Ibadan as well as commissioning of projects.
He said that on Tuesday, January 23, Lagelites will visit the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and the founding Principal of the School, Pa Ayo Labiyi which will be followed by visits to Charity Homes, adding that Wednesday will be for the re-launch of the school magazine and resuscitation of the school clubs which include the Literary and Debating Club, Press Club, Drama and Musical Society, French Club, Geography, Agricultural and Science Club.
The Chairman stated that Thursday will witness a Career Session with the recognition of a hundred distinguished lagelites who will receive the Diamond Anniversary Distinguished Career Mentors and Achievers’ awards in Corporate and Political Leadership. The Key Note address at the event will be delivered by the distinguished alumnus and international business man, Mr. Kase Lawal.
Aletor further disclosed that Friday is the day for the Diamond Anniversary Lecture which will be delivered by Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman designate, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), who is also an alumnus of the school.
According to him, the grand finale of the 60th anniversary celebrations is the gala nite where Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, an alumnus of the institution, will deliver a key note address. Other activities of the day will be the institution of various Endowment Funds and the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the School Governing Board Building amongst others as Aletor emphasized that the School Governing Board (SGB) is working in tandem with the Alumni association to ensure that the lost glory of the school is restored.
