The Kebbi State Government has finalised plans to sponsor the mass wedding of no fewer than 600 individuals, consisting of 300 grooms and 300 brides, with each couple set to receive ₦180,000 as dowry support.
The Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, Suleman Argungu, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
He explained that screening committees had been established to ensure that all selected couples meet the requirements.
As part of the selection process, Argungu noted that prospective couples would undergo pre-marital health screenings and assessments of the grooms’ employment or trade status to confirm their ability to provide for their wives.
He further stated that the initiative is designed to assist vulnerable members of society, including orphans, widows, and people with special needs, irrespective of their tribe or religious background.
“This programme is aimed at supporting the less privileged by providing them with an opportunity to build stable homes. The government is committed to ensuring that beneficiaries are adequately prepared for marriage, both financially and health-wise,” Argungu said.
