Kebbi govt. to construct 500 rural roads with $60m loan

Kebbi State Government on Wednesday disclosed that it will access 60 million dollars loan from the World Bank for the construction of 500 rural roads network across 21 local government areas of the state.

The state governor, Atiku Bagudu made this disclosure when he played host to the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammdu Zayyanu, who visited him in Birnin Kebbi.

Bagudu informed that the state government had already paid its counterpart fund, stressing that the project has been designed to transform rural areas and ease transportation in the state.

He added that the state government will participate in the construction of the dilapidated Jega-Koko-Yauri federal road by scrapping the road as agreed upon with the contractor on site.

“The government has already released N374 million for the completion of Yauri Power Sub-Station as well as the repairs of Yauri – Birnin road and Yauri Zuru Power lines to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply”, the governor said.

He also ordered the release of undisclosed amount for immediate evacuation of trees and other obstacles along water ways in Yauri Emirate to pave way for smooth marine transportation and avoid boats mishap as recorded in the area recently.

“On the problem of signal transmission of our state television, I assure you that the problem will soon be over as my administration has released N700 million for the digital contract of the television station including Yauri, Zuru and Koko Sub- stations.”

Earlier in his address, the emir appealed to the governor that the emirate and its environs lacked potable water supply, good roads and electricity.

“I am here to show solidarity and to inform you of the needs of my subjects like potable water supply, electricity and roads,” he stressed.
