The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Zaliha Shuaibu, for allegedly killing her co-wife’s three-month-old baby boy in Malari Village, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a preliminary investigation, the tragic incident occurred at the shared residence of the two wives. The infant’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim, had briefly left the room to use the restroom, leaving her baby behind.
Upon her return, she found her co-wife, Zaliha, holding the child, who was foaming at the mouth and had a visible injury on his neck. The baby was immediately rushed to hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
Police spokespersons revealed that the suspect was promptly arrested and, during interrogation, confessed to committing the crime. Zaliha disclosed that she conspired with one Lawal Muhammad, the younger brother of their husband, who allegedly supplied the acid used in the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently. He further pledged that all individuals found to be involved in the heinous act would face the full weight of the law.
The investigation is ongoing.
