Jurgen Klopp described Xherdan Shaqiri as “not normal” following his spectacular overhead kick on his debut.
Shaqiri stole the show in his first Liverpool appearance as he netted the last of the Reds’ four goals in the 4-1 win over Manchester United in Michigan.
The Swiss international had already assisted Daniel Sturridge’s strike earlier in the second half before producing a piece of magic of his own.
Asked about the debut performance, Klopp says that he has been left stunned with how quickly Shaqiri has fitted into the Liverpool system.
“Yeah it was good,” the Liverpool boss said on the goal.
“It’s not normal that a player after four days adapts so well to the style of play.
“It was better than I would have expected.
“But today was a game that was quite easy to come into.”
Liverpool ran riot in front of 100,000 people at the Big House in Michigan, with Sadio Mane, Sturridge and Sheyi Ojo finding the net before Shaqiri’s volley.
Andreas Pereira had levelled the game in the first-half with a spectacular free-kick in which rookie goalkeeper Kamil Grabara was left helpless.
On Sturridge’s display, Klopp added: “I like him a lot. First as a player, he’s outstanding.
“When I came here I was very excited to work with him. Since then he had injury issues, and a lot of others improved.”
Asked what sort of a role Sturridge plays going into this season, Klopp added: “He decides that, to be honest.
“You can see he is enjoying himself. He needs to be fit. He was so good in the last few weeks. We will see.
“Hopefully he’ll have a very important (role).”
