Incredible images show thousands of Al Ahly fans swarm pitch as Egyptian side cancel training

Hordes of Al Ahly fans swarming their side’s Cairo training base forced training to be cancelled ahead of the African Champions League final second leg.

The session was abandoned due to the remarkable number of supporters who crammed in to watch the Egyptian club.

A stand to the side of the pitch was bursting at the seams, with many spilling out onto the turf itself.

A sea of red appeared in support of the Egyptian side ahead of their huge game on Saturday

Al Ahly were scheduled to train ahead of Saturday’s clash with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca.

The tie is perfectly balanced at 1-1 and victory for Al Ahly would secure a record ninth African title for the club based in Egypt’s capital.

Al Ahly have grown a fanatical fanbase over the years and their trophy cabinet might need extending, with 39 national titles and 36 national cups to their name.

Supporters crammed into every available spot with some even perching on top of a fence

The Egyptian club could bring home their ninth African title with a win in Morocco on Saturday

The team will hope to get a run-out before Saturday, with just one remaining training session planned before departing for Morocco on Wednesday.

Al Ahly are unsurprisingly a club full of confidence given their rich history of success, and many in Egypt refer to them by one of their nicknames: ‘Club of the Century.’

The current squad is entirely made up of African players, and star defender Ahmed Hegazi is plying his trade in the Premier League, on loan at West Brom.

Home games are played at Cairo Stadium which fortunately boasts a capacity of 75,000 to accommodate the loyal followers, of which the ultras have a reputation for pyrotechnic displays.

No doubt there will be even more fireworks if Al Ahly manage to become champions of Africa for the ninth time.

Every single seat was taken and some fans perched precariously on the edge of a stand

Al Ahly are one of the biggest and most successful teams in Africa with a massive fanbase
