IBSE/NE Federal Constituency : PDP leaders oppose to automatic ticket for Agboworin allegedly locked out of stakeholders meeting

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan South East/ North East Federal Constituency that are opposed to the consensus ticket for the incumbent occupier of the position, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin have allegedly denied entrance into venue for stakeholders meeting on Tuesday. 

The leaders under the aegis of Concern IBSE/IBNE Forum raised an alarm that this was a ploy to impose Agboworin on them.

They further vowed to resist any attempt  that negate democratic process in picking candidate, saying they should allow all the aspirants go into field to test their popularity.

It would be recalled that two meetings held on Sunday and Monday ended in deadlock as many stakeholders kicked against an automatic ticket for the incumbent member of the House of Representatives representing the constituency, Hon. Abbas Adigun Agboworin. 

The leaders were meeting to reach a consensus to adopt a candidate that will represent PDP in the Ibadan South East/ Ibadan North-East Federal constituency during the 2023 general elections.

It was gathered that the majority of the stakeholders and leaders from Ibadan North East vehemently rejected the nomination of Adigun Agboworin.

They warned that any attempt to impose the lawmaker on the party may spell doom and result in anarchy for the party 

However, the situation took another dimension on Tuesday when those leaders and stakeholders who are opposing to the automatic ticket for Agboworin are denied entrance into where today’s meeting is currently going on.

Speaking on behalf of the Concern IBSE/IBNE Forum, a PDP stalwart in Ibadan South-East, Biodun Adebola, who queried the rationale behind locking those oppose to automatic ticket for incumbency, also questioned why the incumbent is afraid of primary if he has done well to deserve a second term ticket.

Adebola added,  “incumbent should be the person to have an edge over other aspirants if he has done well for his constituents but we are surprised that our incumbent is afraid of primary.

“This shows clearly that our incumbent has performed below expectations to deserve second term ticket and any attempt to impose him on us will spell doom.

“In a democrat setting, everyone should be set free to test their popularity, As a democrat, the basic principle of consensus is for all participating aspirants to agree and where they do not agree, they result to primary. We are calling on Governor Seyi Makinde, party leaders and executives to give room for primary where consensus has failed but any attempt to impose candidate will spell doom for the party”, the PDP leader submitted.
